Accessing E-mail Accounts with Client Applications

Learn how to set up an e-mail client application to access your e-mail account. This method requires more configuration than webmail but offers more flexibility and features.

This article explains how to configure an e-mail client such as Outlook, Thunderbird, macOS Mail, or other applications to connect to a ruachost.com e-mail account.

Before You Begin

Note:

• This article assumes you have already created at least one e-mail account for your domain. If not, see Creating an E-mail Account in cPanel.

• You should also be familiar with e-mail protocols such as SMTP, IMAP, and POP3. If you’re new to these terms, review Introduction to E-mail Protocols before proceeding.

How to Set Up a Client E-mail Application

There are many e-mail clients available, including Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora, and macOS Mail. Some can automatically configure accounts using your login credentials, while others require manual setup.

Regardless of the application, every configuration requires:

• Incoming mail settings (POP3 or IMAP)

• Outgoing mail settings (SMTP)

Incoming E-mail: Configuring POP3 and IMAP

To configure your client for POP3 or IMAP access to a ruachost.com server, use the following details:

Login Information

• Username: Your full e-mail address (for example, webmaster@example.com)

• Password: The password you set in cPanel for this e-mail account

Server Name
Use one of the following:

• mail.example.com - Replace example.com with your domain name

• The full ruachost.com server name for your account (e.g., mi3-ss78.ruachost.com or sr10.supercp.com)

Important:
If you plan to use secure SSL access (recommended), use the ruachost.com server name instead of your domain name. This prevents security warnings related to mismatched SSL certificates.

Port Numbers

We strongly recommend using the secure (SSL) configuration whenever possible.

Outgoing E-Mail: Configuring SMTP

To send messages, you must configure your client to use an SMTP server. While you must use a ruachost.com POP3 or IMAP server to receive mail, you may use either the ruachost.com SMTP server or your ISP’s SMTP server for outgoing mail.

Note:
If you prefer to use an alternate SMTP server (for example, your ISP’s), contact that provider for the correct settings.

Login Information

Important:
If you use secure SSL access with SMTP (recommended), always use the ruachost.com server name instead of your domain name. This avoids SSL certificate mismatch warnings.

Port Numbers

Note:
Some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) block port 25 to prevent spam. If your ISP blocks port 25, use port 2525 instead.
