WordPress includes a built‑in comment system that allows visitors to leave feedback on your posts. As an administrator, you can approve, edit, reply to, or delete comments directly from the dashboard. On ruachost.com, you can also manage large volumes of comments using phpMyAdmin.

Managing Comments via WordPress Admin

  1. Log in to WordPress as the administrator.

  2. In the dashboard, click Comments.

  3. WordPress displays all comments across your posts.

  4. Use filters to view specific categories:

    • Pending → Comments awaiting review.

    • Approved → Comments already published.

    • Spam → Comments flagged as spam.

    • Trash → Comments marked for deletion.

Actions Available

  • Approve → Makes the comment visible to the public.

  • Unapprove → Hides the comment from public view.

  • Reply → Allows you to respond directly.

  • Quick Edit → Make small changes to comment text.

  • Edit → Full editor for detailed changes.

  • Spam → Marks the comment as spam.

  • Trash → Moves the comment to the trash bin.

 

Deleting Comments via phpMyAdmin

For sites with hundreds of spam comments, it may be faster to delete them directly from the database.

  1. Log in to cPanel at ruachost.com.

  2. Under Databases, click phpMyAdmin.

  3. Select your WordPress database (usually named username_wpXXX).

  4. Click the wp_comments table.

  5. To group comments by post, click the comment_post_ID heading.

  6. To delete:

    • Single comment → Click Delete in the row.

    • Multiple comments → Select checkboxes → Click Delete under With selected.

  7. Confirm deletion.

Notes

  • Always back up your database before bulk deletions.

  • Use plugins like Akismet or Antispam Bee for automated spam filtering.

  • Comments can be disabled entirely under Settings → Discussion.
