Adding CAPTCHA protection to a Joomla site

CAPTCHA protection helps secure your Joomla site by reducing spam and blocking automated bots. On ruachost.com, you can add CAPTCHA functionality using free plugins such as OSOLCaptcha, or by enabling Google reCAPTCHA.

Method 1: Using OSOLCaptcha (Free, No Registration Required)

1. Download the Plugin

   • Visit the OSOLCaptcha GitHub page.

   • Click Download ZIP and save the file to your computer.

2. Install the Plugin

   • Log in to Joomla as an administrator.

   • Go to Extensions → Manage → Install.

   • Select the Upload Package File tab.

   • Browse and upload the ZIP file.

   • Joomla installs the plugin.

3. Enable the Plugin

   • Go to Extensions → Plugins.

   • Filter by System.

   • Locate System – osolCaptcha.

   • Change the status to Enabled.

4. Configure the Plugin

   • Click System – osolCaptcha to adjust styling and options.

   • Save changes.

5. Test CAPTCHA

   • Visit your site’s login, registration, password reset, username reminder, or contact forms.

   • Confirm CAPTCHA is displayed and working.

Method 2: Using Google reCAPTCHA

1. Generate reCAPTCHA Keys

   • Visit Google reCAPTCHA Admin Console.

   • Register your domain and obtain Site Key and Secret Key.

2. Enable reCAPTCHA in Joomla

   • Log in to Joomla Administrator.

   • Go to Extensions → Plugins.

   • Locate Captcha – reCAPTCHA.

   • Enter your Site Key and Secret Key.

   • Enable the plugin.

3. Set Default CAPTCHA

   • Go to System → Global Configuration → Default Captcha.

   • Select Captcha – reCAPTCHA.

   • Save changes.
